To The Dismay Of Many,A Woman Still Has The Right To Choose In America!

My body is my temple. It is not yours! If I choose to carry a baby that may be harmful to my health, that is my choice. And if I choose to abort the fetus that is my personal decision.I am the woman that will have to live with the consequences of my choice.

But,oh,how lucky I am to have the right to decide what will be done with my body in the first place. To the dismay of many, women still have the right to choose in America.Thank goodness for that!

Because not so long ago, abortions were illegal in America. And women would risk & oftentimes lose their lives to obtain one.I guess those anti-abortion extremists, like the one who murdered Dr. George Tiller, just can’t seem to understand that.A woman will decide what to do with her body with or without the assistance of an abortion doctor.

Here’s more from The Vancover Sun:

It is not surprising that anti-abortion groups deny any links with the killer of Dr. George Tiller. As usual, their representatives claim that they are pro-life. The irony of their stance is this: In countries where abortion is illegal, there is a higher rate of abortion. Illegal abortions result in more complications, which can cause either reduced fertility or maternal death.

Women have abortions for a variety of reasons–illness, poverty, violence, sexual assault, failed birth control and fetal anomaly. When we provide safe, legal abortions we increase the level of health care for everyone; we acknowledge women’s right to decide for themselves if they are able to carry through with a pregnancy and provide a secure, healthy life for a child.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

And even more from The  Guttmacher Institute:

A new national study shows that the number of abortions performed in Mexico increased by one-third between 1990 and 2006 (from 533,000 to 875,000), despite legal restrictions that virtually ban the procedure in most parts of the country. (In 2007, the federal district of Mexico City legalized abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy; the procedure remains illegal in other Mexican states.) Mexico’s 2006 abortion rate (33 per 1,000 women) was more than 40% higher than the abortion rate in the United States (19.4 per 1,000 women), where abortion is broadly legal and available.

The study, conducted by El Colegio de Mexico, the Population Council Mexico Office and the Guttmacher Institute, found that many abortions in Mexico take place under unsafe conditions, resulting in serious health consequences for women. Seventeen percent of the Mexican women who obtained abortions in 2006 were treated in public hospitals for complications. In comparison, fewer than 0.3% of abortion patients in the U.S. have complications requiring hospitalization.

“These findings confirm research from other parts of the world – that making abortion illegal does not significantly decrease its frequency, it just makes it unsafe and puts women’s lives at risk,” said Fatima Juarez, the study’s lead author. A professor at El Colegio de Mexico and a senior fellow at the Guttmacher Institute, Dr. Juarez added, “The contrast between U.S. and Mexican abortion rates reflects a larger disparity in awareness of contraceptive methods and access to family planning services. The best way to make abortion less necessary is to help women avoid unwanted pregnancies in the first place by increasing access to a wide range of contraceptive methods.” (End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

George Bush Issuing A Statement Saying Robert Mugabe Had To Go!

Have you heard about the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe? I’m sure you’ve seen the heartwrenching photos & coverage on CNN. It’s unbelievable that most  Zimbabweans are living in such squalor in what is supposed to be a democratic society! And while his fellow countrymen are dying because of impoverishment, Robert Mugabe lives a life of regality! This video shows the beautiful palace that he resides in. How did he go from a freedom fighter to someone who won’t even lift a finger to provide assistance to those who are engulfed in this crisis? Has all sense of humanity left President Mugabe? I agree with George Bush’s statement. Robert Mugabe must go! He is now claiming that there is no cholera in Zimbabwe. Here’s more from Sky News:

“In a televised speech to the nation, the president said that cholera no longer existed in the country.

“I am happy to say our doctors have been assisted by others and WHO (the World Health Organisation)… so now that there is no cholera,” he said.

Mugabe also hit back at calls from Gordon Brown and George Bush for him to step down.

“Because of cholera, Mr Brown wants a military intervention,” he said.

Bush wants military intervention because of cholera.”

There is no cause for war any more,” Mugabe continued.

“The cholera cause doesn’t exist any more.”

Despite Mugabe’s claims, the number of people killed by the disease has risen to 783, with more than 16,000 suspected cases reported so far, the UN said.

The WHO has warned that the disease could affect up to 60,000 people in the coming weeks.” (End of Excerpt) Read the rest here:

Because ” America Sure Loves Those Hockey Moms”!

I was watching the vice presidential debate tonight with Sarah Palin & Joe Biden. When I see Sarah Palin I always think of a hockey or soccer mom. You know that they say she’s great with the one-liners & the zingers. Well, that’s one line that really sticks out for me. I would love to be a soccer, hockey, softball, karate, or any other kind of mom. The problem is that even before the stocks started plunging my finances went kaput! I’ve got a new line for whatever campaign wants to pick it up. “A lot of American moms are somewhere between a welfare mom & a hockey mom. They can’t afford the hockey lessons but their income is too great to receive welfare. Check out this post from a blogger that knows how costly hockey or any sport can get. (http://bentcorner.com/2008/09/so-what-exactly-is-a-hockey-mom/

What we need is a more substantive debate that would talk about those who are basically poor. Has the middle class taken the place of the poor in the minds of the wealthy? When Sarah Palin talks about being a “hockey mom”, she’s not talking about your average mom trying to make ends meet. Ms. Palin has a six-figure income & she identifies with being a hockey mom. Being a hockey mom is reserved for those who make enough to afford it. I’m not sure who in this campaign has talked about those who are low-income & facing even greater poverty. Who is really going to address the poor on a more frequent basis? Apparently, the middle class is all that counts when you’re trying to appeal to voters. Watch the video because a teacher talks about poverty for once in this campaign. Too bad the candidates aren’t talking about the really poor Americans. I guess they figure Barack Obama’s got their vote already.
