- John McCain In Fighting Mode
He has been illustrated as being the ultimate war hero. Heck, he never lets us forget that he has the wounds to prove that fact. He survived torture by his captors during the Vietnam War which is how he got those aforementioned battle scars. That is one facet of his career that cannot be disputed. His life has been a series of ups & downs just like those shifting numbers in the polls. There has been some scandal & triumph in his political life. In fact, he took on campaign finance reform because of the Keating 5 debacle that he was involved in. He has had to gain acceptance from the republican party due to his reputation as one who goes against his own party. He has always been known as a true pugilist! The question has now become who is he actually in a conflict with? Is Barack Obama the only opposition in his battle to win the White House?
Since waging a character battle with Barack Obama, he’s had to fight the importunate blather about his own moral fiber. There are anecdotes about John McCain’s mafia ties, his gambling sprees, adultery, etc… If you want to hear more detail about these stories go to (http://www.realchange.org/mccain.htm ) He has had to fight his own words as well. What you say in the age of youtube will come back to bite you in the ass! I have included a video below where you can witness one of John McCain’s biggest fights! It is the battle with himself that is John McCain’s biggest challenge during this whole election. Should he be the maverick that he’s infamous for being or does his association with Bush relegate him to being just a sidekick? It seems that McCain has been skirmishing with these two conflicting views of him. What impression is the public getting from the choices he has made during this election?
Looking at today’s polls, it seems that John McCain is losing this battle with himself & Barack Obama. He was running neck to neck with Obama barely a month ago. But, he made a lot of choices that made the good American folks question his true motives. The choice of Sarah Palin as his VP pick left many wondering about his integrity. Did he really think she could sway Hilary Clinton voters? Because those two are poles apart in everything but gender!
John McCain has decided to reassert himself as the maverickduring the final weeks of this election. This economic crisis has him fighting an uphill battle because he signed the bailout bill along with Barack Obama! It has plenty of pork barrel spending tacked on to it, which he said he had no tolerance for. A lot of McCain supporters were dismayed by that fact! Then, when he suspended his campaign there was a huge dispute as to the true reason behind this announcement. Especially when it was not clear what role he actually played in the bailout talks. People still mull over what his real objective was in doing that. Therefore, he must now fight this image of him being just a sidekick of George Bush. That is what is embedded in the psyche of countless voters that are in those battleground states that Obama & McCain are fighting for. Can he make a comeback in just 3 weeks ? That is one of the many unknowns that will keep us engrossed with this election until they finally announce the victor!

I was watching the vice presidential debate tonight with Sarah Palin & Joe Biden. When I see Sarah Palin I always think of a hockey or soccer mom. You know that they say she’s great with the one-liners & the zingers. Well, that’s one line that really sticks out for me. I would love to be a soccer, hockey, softball, karate, or any other kind of mom. The problem is that even before the stocks started plunging my finances went kaput! I’ve got a new line for whatever campaign wants to pick it up. “A lot of American moms are somewhere between a welfare mom & a hockey mom. They can’t afford the hockey lessons but their income is too great to receive welfare. Check out this post from a blogger that knows how costly hockey or any sport can get. (http://bentcorner.com/2008/09/so-what-exactly-is-a-hockey-mom/
What we need is a more substantive debate that would talk about those who are basically poor. Has the middle class taken the place of the poor in the minds of the wealthy? When Sarah Palin talks about being a “hockey mom”, she’s not talking about your average mom trying to make ends meet. Ms. Palin has a six-figure income & she identifies with being a hockey mom. Being a hockey mom is reserved for those who make enough to afford it. I’m not sure who in this campaign has talked about those who are low-income & facing even greater poverty. Who is really going to address the poor on a more frequent basis? Apparently, the middle class is all that counts when you’re trying to appeal to voters. Watch the video because a teacher talks about poverty for once in this campaign. Too bad the candidates aren’t talking about the really poor Americans. I guess they figure Barack Obama’s got their vote already.

http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/11/06women_Condoleezza-Rice_MTNG.htmlI You will have to click on to the video link in order to view it. I have also included a link to an article in Forbes magazine that listed 100 of the most powerful women in the world. The second woman on the list was Condoleezza Rice. As if you didn’t know, she is a 51-year old african american woman who advises George Bush regularly. She has a major role in his cabinet as the Secretary of State. This woman handles foreign affairs & has a very distinguished career. Her involvement in this administration may taint her accomplishments in the public’s eyes. In fact as this video demonstrates, she is detested by many because of the war in Iraq. But she has achieved a lot & has paved the way for Barack Obama to be taken seriously as a presidential candidate. After all, she has proven that blacks are able to play the game of politics just as well as whites.
The view of blacks may still be negative & there is much to be done if that is to be corrected. Whether you like her or not, Condoleezza Rice has elevated the views towards blacks worldwide. She is noted in Forbes magazine as being “America’s top diplomat“. Unfortunately, she was mentioned on MSNBC today as being a war criminal that should be prosecuted for violating the Geneva convention. It seems to me like Condoleezza Rice & Colin Powell were among the many that were used as proxies for President George Bush. If his administration should be prosecuted, then the president’s fate should be much more severe. Since I am not privy to all of the facts, I won’t be so quick to condemn her. I will commend her for obtaining one of the most powerful positions in the world. Believe me, she broke a lot of glass ceilings which benefited Hilary Clinton as well. Who knows if America is ready for a black or female president? I think that she prepared the country for that to be a possibility. In Condoleezza Rice, America got to see the potential for a black female president. For that, you have to give her props! The fact that those of african descent are making measurable progress is one of the greatest things about America!
