Celebrity Stylist Rachel Zoe Is Reportedly Pregnant!

I first heard of Rachel Zoe when she was styling Lindsay Lohan. There was speculation that she was introducing the young starlet to an unhealthy lifestyle of extreme dieting. A lot of folks believe that Rachel Zoe has an eating disorder. Here’s more on that from CelebWarship:

“Rachel Zoe shocked onlookers at the Cracked Xmas Fundraiser in Los Angeles on Sunday with her protruding ribcage and sunken face. The 37 year old celebrity stylist recently admitted she sometimes thinks she’s too thin, but has no plans to take care of herself.

“We’ve had Audrey Hepburn, we’ve had Twiggy, we’ve had Veruschka, we’ve had Kate Moss,” she said. “I’m trying to figure out why I am to blame for skinniness.

“Truthfully, I’ve never seen myself as being too thin,” she added. “Sometimes I’ll look at photos and be like, ‘Oh, that’s not a good look. ‘But generally speaking, I’m not too thin.” (Read more here.)

Sorry to disagree with you,Rachel. People cannot help but notice just how skeletal you look. It’s beyond being “too thin.” Hopefully, you will get cravings that will force you to eat. Because even though she seems to have an aversion to food, her pregnancy will change that.

At least,I hope it does.No one should try to emulate her body-wise. She is a great fashionista. But,Rachel Zoe is not someone I would take nutritional advice from.

The Folks In China Are Stuck In Traffic For Days On End!

Unless you are in China, don’t you ever complain about a traffic jam again! I know that it feels like days when you are stuck in congested traffic. But,that’s what it has literally been in China. They have been stuck in an ongoing traffic jam for the past 10 days. And they still may have a few weeks to go. What’s the cause of this nightmarish traffic cram? Apparently,it’s construction & big trucks.

Here’s more from The Hindu:

“Baffled by the world’s longest traffic jam, the Chinese government has mobilised hundreds of policemen to clear the 100 km long stretch of the Beijing— Tibet highway, riddled with vehicles for 10 days, with the pile up almost reaching the outskirts of the capital. The snarl up on the highway, on a section that links the capital to the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia was triggered by road construction and repair.

While all sorts of vehicles appeared to have been caught up in the jam, it was mostly caused by lengthy coal carrying trucks, which brings fuel for the industries around the capital. The traffic jam was currently noticed about 60 km outside Beijing and officials hope to clear it in the next few days with the deployment of large traffic police at various places.

The government has mobilised hundreds of policemen to clear the massive pile up that has caused embarrassment here.

At several places, drivers, sick and tired of the snarl up were bitter and angry as temperatures soared during the day and dipped in the nights. Many complained that local vendors were fleecing them for food and water, charging heavy rates, in selling water for 10 yuan as against its normal price of one yuan.

The jam which some in Beijing say was not new in that particular section has also brought the spotlight back on China’s soaring auto sales.

The congestion is set to peak in five years, when the total number of cars is expected to nearly double, the Beijing Transportation Research Centre has said in its new report.

If people continue to purchase vehicles at the current rate of 1,900 new cars a day, the total will reach seven million in 2015 in Beijing alone, reducing average speeds in the city to below 15 km an hour, the report published in official Global Times said today.

Beijing’s already a big parking lot!” complained a taxi driver Gan during a traffic jam on the East Third Ring Road.

“We’re making another Great Wall, it’s just that this one is made of cars,” he said.”(End of Excerpt) Read more here. Vodpod videos no longer available.

In Afghanistan,Whole Families Are Addicted To Opium!

We all know by now about the huge drug problem in the United States. But,I have never heard of an drug epidemic that involved the whole family getting hooked. That is exactly what is happening in Afghanistan. Here’s an excerpt from an appalling story of addiction taken from

“Open the door to Islam Beg’s house and the thick opium smoke rushes out into the cold mountain air, like steam from a bathhouse. It’s just past 8 a.m. and the family of six — including a 1-year-old boy — is already curled up at the lip of the opium pipe.

Beg, 65, breathes in and exhales a cloud of smoke. He passes the pipe to his wife. She passes it to their daughter. The daughter blows the opium smoke into the baby’s tiny mouth. The baby’s eyes roll back into his head.Their faces are gaunt. Their hair is matted. They smell.

In dozens of mountain hamlets in this remote corner of Afghanistan, opium addiction has become so entrenched that whole families — from toddlers to old men — are addicts. The addiction moves from house to house, infecting entire communities cut off from the rest of the world by glacial streams.

From just one family years ago, at least half the people of Sarab, population 1,850, are now addicts.Afghanistan supplies nearly all the world’s opium, the raw ingredient used to make heroin, and while most of the deadly crop is exported, enough is left behind to create a vicious cycle of addiction.

There are at least 200,000 opium and heroin addicts in Afghanistan — 50,000 more than in the much bigger, wealthier United States, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a 2005 survey by the UN. A new survey is expected to show even higher rates of addiction, a window into the human toll of Afghanistan’s back-to-back wars and desperate poverty.

Unlike in the West, the close-knit nature of communities here makes addiction a family affair. Instead of passing from one rebellious teenager to another, the habit passes from mother to daughter, father to son. It’s turning villages like this one into a landscape of human depredation.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

Thanks To Twitter,Iranians Have A Way To Communicate!

Twitter is an American invention that is playing a crucial role in Iran.Although the Iranian government tried their darnedest to block all forms of communication, they underestimated the power of the tweet.Who knew that Twitter would play such a central role in a fight for democracy?

Oppressive regimes better watch out!

Here’s more from Forbes:

“As Twitter’s popularity has grown, its users living under oppressive foreign regimes have slowly realized the power of the simple microblogging service for organizing political dissent. On Monday, for the first time, Twitter’s administrators seem to have acknowledged that power, too.

Had it not been for a network upgrade that required Twitter to schedule 90 minutes of downtime at 9:45 PDT, Twitter might have continued to play the role of an impartial platform, with no apparent distinction between the plight of Iranian activists and the network capacity needs of oversharing American celebrities.

But when the site’s 90-minute maintenance window was announced Monday afternoon–in the midst of the service’s use in organizing thousands of Iranian dissidents protesting alleged fraud in the national election–the result was a flood of thousands of requests to the site asking that Twitter delay the maintenance downtime.

“Democracy needs you, Twitter!” wrote a user named temp09.

“Twitter, do not condemn the people of Iran to silence,” another, named tinyi, added.

“Upgrades can wait. The people dying in Iran cannot,” pleaded a Twitterer by the name of hoopiest_frood.

At 4:17 Pacific time, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone wrote in a blog post on the site that Twitter had worked out a deal with its network provider, NTT America, to delay the maintenance.

Our network partners at NTT America recognize the role Twitter is currently playing as an important communication tool in Iran,” Stone wrote.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

To The Dismay Of Many,A Woman Still Has The Right To Choose In America!

My body is my temple. It is not yours! If I choose to carry a baby that may be harmful to my health, that is my choice. And if I choose to abort the fetus that is my personal decision.I am the woman that will have to live with the consequences of my choice.

But,oh,how lucky I am to have the right to decide what will be done with my body in the first place. To the dismay of many, women still have the right to choose in America.Thank goodness for that!

Because not so long ago, abortions were illegal in America. And women would risk & oftentimes lose their lives to obtain one.I guess those anti-abortion extremists, like the one who murdered Dr. George Tiller, just can’t seem to understand that.A woman will decide what to do with her body with or without the assistance of an abortion doctor.

Here’s more from The Vancover Sun:

It is not surprising that anti-abortion groups deny any links with the killer of Dr. George Tiller. As usual, their representatives claim that they are pro-life. The irony of their stance is this: In countries where abortion is illegal, there is a higher rate of abortion. Illegal abortions result in more complications, which can cause either reduced fertility or maternal death.

Women have abortions for a variety of reasons–illness, poverty, violence, sexual assault, failed birth control and fetal anomaly. When we provide safe, legal abortions we increase the level of health care for everyone; we acknowledge women’s right to decide for themselves if they are able to carry through with a pregnancy and provide a secure, healthy life for a child.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

And even more from The  Guttmacher Institute:

A new national study shows that the number of abortions performed in Mexico increased by one-third between 1990 and 2006 (from 533,000 to 875,000), despite legal restrictions that virtually ban the procedure in most parts of the country. (In 2007, the federal district of Mexico City legalized abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy; the procedure remains illegal in other Mexican states.) Mexico’s 2006 abortion rate (33 per 1,000 women) was more than 40% higher than the abortion rate in the United States (19.4 per 1,000 women), where abortion is broadly legal and available.

The study, conducted by El Colegio de Mexico, the Population Council Mexico Office and the Guttmacher Institute, found that many abortions in Mexico take place under unsafe conditions, resulting in serious health consequences for women. Seventeen percent of the Mexican women who obtained abortions in 2006 were treated in public hospitals for complications. In comparison, fewer than 0.3% of abortion patients in the U.S. have complications requiring hospitalization.

“These findings confirm research from other parts of the world – that making abortion illegal does not significantly decrease its frequency, it just makes it unsafe and puts women’s lives at risk,” said Fatima Juarez, the study’s lead author. A professor at El Colegio de Mexico and a senior fellow at the Guttmacher Institute, Dr. Juarez added, “The contrast between U.S. and Mexican abortion rates reflects a larger disparity in awareness of contraceptive methods and access to family planning services. The best way to make abortion less necessary is to help women avoid unwanted pregnancies in the first place by increasing access to a wide range of contraceptive methods.” (End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

Saudi Arabia: A Saudi Judge Thinks That It’s Okay To Slap A Financially Frivolous Woman!

As hot tempered & opinionated as I am,I’m sure glad that I don’t live in Saudi Arabia! The women are still expected to be docile & obedient to their husbands. And,according to a Saudi judge, they should be slapped if they don’t practice frugality.

Can you believe he made this remark at a seminar on domestic violence? How rich is that?!! Here’s more from CNN:

Husbands are allowed to slap their wives if they spend lavishly, a Saudi judge said recently during a seminar on domestic violence, Saudi media reported Sunday. Arab News, a Saudi English-language daily newspaper based in Riyadh, reported that Judge Hamad Al-Razine said that “if a person gives SR 1,200 [$320] to his wife and she spends 900 riyals [$240] to purchase an abaya [the black cover that women in Saudi Arabia must wear] from a brand shop and if her husband slaps her on the face as a reaction to her action, she deserves that punishment.”

Women in the audience immediately and loudly protested Al-Razine’s statement, and were shocked to learn the remarks came from a judge, the newspaper reported.Arab News reported that Al-Razine made his remark as he was attempting to explain why incidents of domestic violence had increased in Saudi Arabia.

He said that women and men shared responsibility, but added that “nobody puts even a fraction of blame” on women, the newspaper said. Al-Razine “also pointed out that women’s indecent behavior and use of offensive words against their husbands were some of the reasons for domestic violence in the country,” it added.

Domestic violence, which used to be a taboo subject in the conservative kingdom, has become a hot topic in recent years. Groups like the National Family Safety Program have campaigned to educate the public about the problem and help prevent domestic abuse.Saudi women’s rights activist Wajeha Al-Huwaider told CNN that Saudi women routinely face such attitudes.” Read the rest here.

Unlike President Hamid Karzai,Our President Believes That Women Should Be Allowed To Progress!

Some are wondering why the president of Afghanistan would sign a law that basically legalizes marital rape & dramatically reverses any progress that Afghan women have made!Is this the freedom that George Bush claimed that women in Afghanistan have because of him? Here’s more from Common

It was three years ago that George Bush triumphantly announced: “The mothers and daughters of Afghanistan were captives in their own homes, forbidden from working or going to school – today women are free.”

However, most women still wear the all-encompassing burqa, through fear of attack and social pressure, a third of women in Kabul do not leave the house, forbidden from doing so by the male members of the family, and it is still almost impossible for women to get a divorce.

It might be three years since the Taliban were toppled but age-old traditions and social attitudes are deeply engrained.

But there are a few signs of change. For the first time in the country’s history there is a Ministry for Women’s Affairs, Kabul’s first women-run radio station was launched this week and there is even a women’s fitness club.

Last month saw the opening of Afghanistan’s first job center for women. Business has been slow. Since the fall of the Taliban, only 2-3% of women have returned to work.

“You can rebuild the city but you can’t change attitudes,” says Alischah Paenda, deputy head of a mission for AGEF, a German non-governmental organization (NGO) partly funded by Britain, which is involved in setting up the job center with the Ministry for Women’s Affairs.

“Jobs for women are very limited. Most women are not allowed to leave the house. And if they are allowed out, they can’t work in fields dominated by men as their families don’t want them mixing with the opposite sex.”

As most sectors in Afghanistan are male dominated, it’s a catch-22 situation. “Even if you work for an NGO you’re not considered very pure. It gives you a bad reputation,” Paenda says.

Another obstacle for the job center is finding qualified women – after years of being banned from education, 90% of Afghan women are illiterate. Even today, centuries-old marriage traditions mean that 60% of Afghan girls are forced into marriage before they reach their 16th birthday and few husbands will allow their wives to go to school.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

President Hamid Karzai may be trying to appeal to certain voters since there is an upcoming election. This new Afghan law prohibits women from leaving the house without their husband’s permission. And they can’t refuse sex without having a reasonable excuse, like being on the rag once a month! When I hear about draconian laws like this,it makes me appreciate being an American even more! Here’s the full info from the Telegraph:

President Hamid Karzai has signed a law the UN says legalises rape in marriage and prevents women from leaving the house without permission. The law, which has not been publicly released, is believed to state women can only seek work, education or doctor’s appointments with their husband’s permission.Only fathers and grandfathers are granted custody of children under the law, according to the United Nations Development Fund for Women.

Opponents of the legislation governing the personal lives of Afghanistan’s Shia minority have said it is “worse than during the Taliban”.Mr Karzai has been accused of electioneering at the expense of women’s rights by signing the law to appeal to crucial Shia swing voters in this year’s presidential poll. While the Afghan constitution guarantees equal rights for women, it also allows the Shia community, thought to represent 10 per cent of the population, the right to settle family law cases according to Shia law.

The Shiite Personal Status Law contains provisions on marriage, divorce, inheritance, rights of movement and bankruptcy. The bill passed both houses of the Afghan parliament, but was so contentious that the United Nations and women’s rights campaigners have so far been unable to see a copy of the approved bill.”(End of Excerpt)Read the full story here.

Here’s how Canada feels about this horrific law,as reported by the AFP:

“Canadian lawmakers said Wednesday they are outraged by Afghan legislation that reportedly restricts the rights of minority Shia women, and want it repealed.

“This is antithetical to our mission in Afghanistan,” Prime Minister Stephen Harper told public broadcaster CBC ahead of G20 talks in London, adding Kabul would face “considerable pressure” to nix it.

The Afghan family law reportedly makes it illegal for a woman to refuse sex with her husband, or to leave home without spousal permission and denies her custody of their children after a divorce.

It has cast a shadow over an international summit on Afghanistan in The Hague, where US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is said to have upbraided Afghan President Hamid Karzai over the law.

“We’re deeply troubled by it,” Harper said in a CBC interview. “And I don’t think we’re by any means alone.”

Making progress on human rights for women is a significant component of the international engagement in Afghanistan. It’s a significant change we want to see from the bad old days of the Taliban,” he said.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

Especially In Britain,Big Brother Is Watching You!

How prophetic was English author George Orwell’s book ” 1984″?! It was about too much government control & surveillance. And that’s exactly what’s going on in Great Britain! They have more CCTV cameras than any other country in the world! Here’s more from the Telegraph:

“Britain has become a bureacratic and authoritarian state watched over by a quarter of the world’s CCTV cameras, a study of Labour’s decade in power claims. National debt is running at £175,000 per household, five times more than thought, while each year the Government has passed 3,500 regulations, along with 100,000 pages of rules and explanation.

The Rotten State of Britain‘ claims to be the first “deeply researched factual account” of Tony Blair’s and Gordon Brown’s time in office. The author Eammon Butler, a director of the leading think tank the Adam Smith Institute, claimed that his book had been turned down by two publishers because of the “unconventional” nature of the content.

He said: “A new form of centralised government and authoritarian government has been created that is worse than ever in Britain’s recent history.” Among the claims in the book are that Britain has a quarter of the world’s CCTV cameras, the largest of any country and that taxes have risen by 51 per cent since 1997.“(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

When Representative Walden Asked The Peanut Butter Execs To Eat Salmonella-Laced Products,They Pleaded The Fifth!

The U.S. Constitution can work for everyone in this country. The weasels at the Peanut Butter Corporation are well aware of that. So,they plead the Fifth on every single question that Rep. Greg Walden asked them. Even when they were asked if they would eat any of those products that are contaminated with salmonella! That speaks to their guilt & knowledge of what they were doing right there!

Where is the remorse & sorrow about the illness & death that they are responsible for? Because they didn’t want to suffer a loss, these men sent out contaminated peanut butter that gave people salmonella poisoning. They should have been forced to eat it! That would really be a fitting punishment!

All of these men appeared to be nervous about their own futures. It’s all about self-preservation for these inhuman creatures. They are evoking their Fifth Amendment right when it comes to answering basic questions about what they knew & when they knew it! They are lucky that they are in America. If this were China, they would have a lot more to be worried about. Here’s more on that from

“If you’ve been watching the news at all lately you already know that the Chinese government has sentenced to death those responsible for the milk contamination that caused the death of Chinese babies and sickened thousands more. And if you’ve been watching the U.S. news you know that the U.S. government just found out that the Georgia firm that sold salmonella tainted peanut butter did so knowingly 12 times in the past year. There’s still debate about whether or not there’s even a criminal violation in the U.S. case, but in China the government vowed to prosecute from the beginning. My dad used to talk about the difference between Western culture and Asian culture and he described it as the difference between right brain thinking and left brain thinking. For the Chinese there was no doubt that poisoning milk was a criminal act, for Americans it’s not so clear cut. My guess is in the U.S., the execs involved will get no more than a slap on the hand and possibly fired for their actions, and as someone else mentioned, we in the U.S. will forget all about this in a year.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest by going here.

America Is Not The World-Renowned Destination For “Suicide Tourism”!

When people come to America, they automatically think of all the opportunities that this country offers! This is the land of rebirth. A place where dreams don’t have to be deferred & life can begin anew.Even though there is an ongoing debate in this country over euthanasia,America is not the destination of “suicide tourists“. Switzerland holds that dubious honor. Here’s more on that from

“Ludwig A. Minelli, the leader of Dignitas, says that his group only assists someone willing to die if that someone “suffers from an illness that inevitably leads to death, or from an unacceptable disability, and wants to end their life and suffering voluntarily.” He adds that his practice is non-profit, even though he charges about 8,500 Euros (roughly $11,500) for each patient. Most of the money goes to salaries for his employees, while the rest goes to anti-suicide counseling and programs in the country. He says he wants to keep things this way because otherwise opponents to the idea of assisted suicide would have reason to believe that he is advocating death for his own personal gain.Public support for suicide under guidance is very widespread in Switzerland, and most of the nation’s citizens believe that each and every one should be able to do with their bodies as they please. However, there are numerous voices that critic the fact that the country has become a world-renowned destination for “suicide tourism.” Church groups are the most die-hard opponents to this law, ever since it was first approved, in 1942, saying that life is sacrosanct, and that no one should be able to end it as they please.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here.

Here’s an interesting article on euthanasia from USAToday:

“In euthanasia, a physician administers a fatal injection or a fatal combination of drugs. In assisted suicide, a physician provides drugs that the patient takes on his or her own.

Discussions about these practices are fueled by the rising number of senior citizens and the declining role of religion in politics and daily life, says Henk Jochemsen, director of medical ethics for the Lindeboom Institute in the Netherlands. Both trends are stronger in Europe than in the USA, which may explain broader public support in Europe for legalizing euthanasia and assisted suicide.

By 2030, one in four people in Europe will be 65 or older; in the USA, it will be one in five, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. As members of the baby boom generation age, their increasing frailty will strain health care and welfare systems, not to mention their families. As a result, governments will be under pressure to bow to demands to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide, Jochemsen says.

The Dutch legislature is likely to legalize euthanasia for the handful of babies born each year with painful and terminal diseases. The protocol, performed only with the parents’ consent, is expected to be tacked onto the existing euthanasia law in 2007, says Boris Dittrich, a Dutch politician and chief author of the country’s euthanasia law.

Assisted suicide and euthanasia take place in every nation, including in American states where it’s illegal, Dittrich says. “We want to write it down and have it in the open … so we know what’s going on. We don’t want any misuse or abuse. If you don’t do it in a transparent way, the chances for abuse or misuse are bigger.”

In fact, in countries where euthanasia is legal, there has not been a dramatic increase in cases. In the Netherlands, about 3,800 deaths a year (or about 2.5% of the total) are listed as euthanasia or assisted suicide requests.

Of Oregon’s 30,000 deaths in 2003, just 42 were assisted-suicide cases, or 0.14% of the total.

Elly de Hullu-Vlaspolder, a retired yoga teacher who lives in a suburb of Amsterdam, says she would support changing the law to add the provision for terminally ill infants. She says she will never forget the day in 1961 when her daughter Marina, 6, died of cancer. Though Marina was in great pain in her final days, no one talked of euthanasia.

Almost 30 years later, when her husband, Peter, was diagnosed with cancer, euthanasia was still illegal, but it had nevertheless become an accepted option. As the end drew near, Peter, a ship captain, asked the family doctor to help him die. The doctor agreed, though he risked prosecution for murder.

Peter, then 65, spent his last day with Elly and the couple’s surviving daughter, Ondine. “It’s strange to say that we were happy, but we had a wonderful last afternoon,” Elly recalls. “The three of us could talk about everything. He laughed. For weeks there had been no smile, but that afternoon he smiled. He was happy there would be a good end of his life and all that pain.”

Opponents of legalized euthanasia and assisted suicide worry that they will become too acceptable and will be sought by people who are not suffering from terminal illnesses or are unable to make rational decisions.

“What I find very worrying is that now there are situations of patients tired of life, suffering of life,” says Jochemsen, the medical ethicist. “Here, you want to talk about a slippery slope, this has changed in just three years (since the Netherlands passed its law). … Anyone who is tired of life can be a candidate for euthanasia. What kind of society are we generating?”

Gerrit Kimsma, a family doctor in the Netherlands, disagrees. He is on one of the medical review committees for euthanasia cases and has helped some patients end their lives. “In each and every case, I can say I bonded with the families, before and after,” he recalls.

In Belgium, which passed a legalized euthanasia law in 2002, there were 347 registered cases last year. In Switzerland, the number of assisted suicides has ranged from 300 to 350 a year, but it is rising because more people are coming from countries where it’s banned.”(End of Excerpt) Read the article in it’s entirety here.
