Arianna Huffington: Political Pundit & Creator Of Huffington Post Gets $25 Million In Funding!

The Huffingtons

The Way They Were: The Huffingtons

Arianna Huffington is one cool ,sophisticate with a tintilating Greek accent. She has been both a Republican & a Democrat. She now classifies herself as a populist. Originally from Greece, she was a columnist named Arianna  Stassinopoulos who basically got rich once she divorced her husband, Michael Huffington. But, it’s not that cut & dry. He waged one of the most costly senatorial campaigns in history, which he lost. Then to top it all off, her husband revealed to the world that he was bisexual. He claimed that ,unlike James McGreevey, his wife knew that he was attracted to men. In any case , Arianna Huffington was well compensated in the divorce settlement. Here’s more from Wikipedia:

“She met oil millionaire Michael Huffington, a family friend of the Bushes at a 1985 party hosted by Ann Getty in San Francisco. The couple were married in 1986 at a wedding paid for by Ann Getty, who had declared that she needed to find Arianna a husband. They moved to Washington, D.C., when he was appointed to serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Negotiations Policy. They later established residency in Santa Barbara, California, in order for him to run in 1992 as a Republican for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, which he won by a significant margin. He was a political conservative on most issues. Arianna campaigned for her husband, courting religious conservatives, arguing for smaller government and a reduction in welfare. In 1994 he narrowly lost the race for the U.S. Senate seat from California to incumbent Dianne Feinstein. The couple divorced in 1997, and in 1998 Michael Huffington revealed that he was gay. A 1999 magazine article claimed that Arianna Huffington “entered the marriage… with full knowledge of Michael Huffington’s sexual interests in men”. The financial terms of their divorce agreement remain undisclosed, but Huffington gained most of her wealth from her husband. Arianna Huffington chose to retain her former husband’s surname, although she had been known as Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington during the period of her marriage.” (End of Excerpt) Read the whole entry here:(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arianna_Huffington

I like Arianna Huffington because she is an immigrant who found great success in America. She is a prime example of the “American Dream”!Now, her site “The Huffington Post” has received $25 million dollars in funding. Here’s more from Editor & Publisher.com:

The Huffington Post, which this year became one of the most popular online news outlets (as ranked by Nielsen) today announced that it has secured $25 million in funding from Oak Investment Partners, a venture capital firm based in Palo Alto, California.

As statement from the news/opinion site said it would “invest in its technology and infrastructure, increase its in-house advertising capabilities, and continue to expand its content offerings — including a new investigative journalism initiative and a rollout of local versions of The Huffington Post in select cities.” The announcement was made by Arianna Huffington and Kenneth Lerer, co-founders of The Huffington Post. An Oak Investment representative will now join the five-person board.

“This commitment from Oak Investment Partners will allow us to accelerate our growth, with more verticals, more video, more citizen journalism initiatives, more cities for our local editions, and a fund for
investigative journalism,” said Huffington in a statement.”(End of Excerpt) Read the rest here: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003917825
