When I saw Maya Rudolph portray “Michelle Obama on SNL, I couldn’t help but to laugh. Maya Rudolph has a lot of talent & spunk! But for some reason, I always think of her late mother, the great Minnie Riperton. She was a master of her craft whose singing capabilities are unmatched to this day! Minnie Riperton was a elegant chic songbird. There was nothing tacky about her, unlike today’s artists. She was a class act.
Minnie Riperton had such an angelic prescence & voice. It’s unfortunate that she passed away at the tender age of 31. Even Mariah Carey pales in comparison when you hear those high octaves that Minnie Riperton was able to reach. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1976. As a result, she became the first black female to serve as a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the disease in 1979.
